What are BK Servos?

BK servos are a product developed by Bert Kammerer, the project was started in early 2013 while Bert was working on the development of the “Goblin 500” helicopter from SAB Heli Division, an Italian RC helicopter manufacturer. The Goblin 500 used mini (mid size) servos and unfortunately every single one of these servos available on the market at the time were just not what Bert wanted for testing, they either lacked speed, torque or they centered poorly. After some research, Bert realized that there was just no way to have a fast, strong and accurate servo with such a small motor, therefore the solution was to use a full size servo motor and fit it in a mid size servo case! The 5000 series BK Servo employs a full size motor in a mini case, this allows for blazing speeds combined with good centering and plenty of torque.

Thanks to the success and popularity of the mini servo, a few months later Bert decided to design a new full size servo, the coreless full size servo not only features a clever design, but it is also lightning fast and very precise. The best part of the coreless full size servo is its price point, just under $100.00, this servo offers an incredible value never seen before in the RC industry. Finally, for those of you who like brushless, also have a brushless line! The brushless servos combine good torque and speed and are suitable for any application from helicopter hard core 3D, to speed or F3C flying. They’re also excellent servos for surface applications, such as 8th scale off road racing.

 More about Bert Kammerer

Bert Kammerer has been involved in R/C for over 34 years, but helicopters specifically since 2004 and more recently FPV drone racing and RC cars. He has worked in design and R&D for many RC helicopter industry leaders, such as Align RC, Miniature Aircraft, Horizon Hobby, Outrage RC, SAB Heli Division and Byron Fuels to name a few. Bert has also been involved in competition. He competed at the XFC (Extreme Flight Championships) where he finished in the top 7 during 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. He also competed at the “World Micro Heli Cup” in Chicago finishing 4th and in the “2008 Align Cup and Competition” where he finished 2nd. He has also taken 1st place for two consecutive at the XFC team competition and also 1st place in the Synchro Competition at “3D Masters” 2011 in the Netherlands.

Bert has traveled to over 30 countries doing RC helicopter demonstrations and has made numerous contributions to the RC industry teaching and mentoring other pilots along the way.

Bert is part of the board of directors of “TORCHS” (The Orlando Remote Control Helicopter Society) and the founder and main organizer of the “Orlando Helicopter Blowout”, the 2nd largest R/C helicopter event in the United States.

Bert also produced a show series called “SmackTalk RC” with Bobby Watts, which focused on teaching people the fundamentals of RC helicopter model building and flying.
